Mobicip Launches Free Kid-Safe iPhone Browser

Mobicip - The Online Child Safety NetTHOUSAND OAKS, Calif.- Feb 10, 2009 -(BUSINESS WIRE)–Mobicip.com, the online child safety net provider for mobile internet devices, announced today that the Mobicip Kid-Safe Browser, the first “free” browser that protects children from inappropriate web content on the iPhone, is now available for parents to download from the iPhone App Store. Mobicip is compatible with the iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPod Touch, and offers the same popular features that iPhone users love on the Safari Mobile browser.

Parents can sign up on www.mobicip.com/iphone and choose between three predefined levels of filtering based on the age of the child. Mobicip’s unique dynamic content filtering algorithm provides comprehensive protection, unlike URL-based solutions, without affecting the performance of either the device or the browsing experience. A demo is available at www.mobicip.com/demo.

The iPhone and iPod Touch have become powerful status symbols for many teenagers and children and they spend a good part of their day with the device to search the web, exchange email or text messages. Teachers and educational technologists are experimenting with integrating the iPhone or iPod Touch into their classrooms and curriculum.

“The iPhone represents a paradigm shift in terms of making the web accessible to young children, anytime and anywhere,” said Suren Ramasubbu, Founder and CEO, Mobicip.com. “Mobicip offers a safety net for these children to have a safe and secure online experience on their favorite device. Mobicip’s filtering policy for each level is based on school recommended settings and the technology is based on proven safeguards used by school IT networks.”

While the current Mobicip application is free, Mobicip will soon be releasing a premium application with more flexible parental control configuration capabilities and supporting multiple platforms for a single subscription.

I tried this application out, and it failed horribly. This application does a horrible job filtering content. Your kids will have access to explicit pornography if you rely on this program to block it.

We are working on resolving image search issues for the basic version, and on rolling out a full version that would provide complete monitoring and reporting capabilities. Please bear with us as we evolve our solution to better meet parents’ needs.

This application is not free — you should change the name of your article to remove the word “free” from the title. The app store costs $4.99 and the yearly subscription is $9.99.
