NavStation – for marine navigators who use paper charts as well as GPS

NavStation is a utility to aid boat navigators. It uses the iPhone’s in-built GPS to fix a position and then displays this in three common formats – Decimal Degrees (d), Degrees + Decimal Minutes (D m) and Degrees + Minutes + Decimal Seconds (D M s). This allows for very simple plotting of positions on paper charts. NavStation’s night mode means that the navigator can preserve their night vision when plotting a fix on the chart.

Nav Station also shows Course-Over-Ground (COG) in °(T), Speed-Over-Ground in kts as well as providing the time stamp of the latest fix. This can be used to sanity check the fix data on the paper chart very quickly.

GPS status is provided if off, acquiring a fix or fix accuracy strays outside 50 meters.

NavStation offers both a day mode and a night mode for navigators wishing to preserve their night vision. Modes are switched by swiping the screen horizontally.

You can set the startup state of NavStation as either day or night and with GPS on or off. You can also specify an automatic ‘GPS Off’ timer.

Battery life of the iPhone is also maximized by providing a configurable auto shutdown of the GPS hardware between fixes.

GPS hardware can also be manually toggled on and off by swiping vertically.

Las Vegas

Las Vegas is a complete street level map for your iPhone. The entire map is stored on your iPhone, so it works where you have no access to the Internet – it works where Google Maps is inaccessible. This prevents expensive data roaming charges by loading all the map data to your iPhone before you leave home. You can even switch your iPhone to ‘Flight mode’ and still be able to find your way around. Lets you find all streets, and many useful locations such as ATM’s, parkings, museums, and many others. Remembers where you’ve been so you can find that parking spot where you left your rental car. To make sure your phone doesn’t use any expensive data on your trip, go to Settings, then General, tap on Network, and slide the Data Roaming to “off”. Note: GPS functions work on the iPhone only.

We have many, many other cities as a street level map for the iPhone, and if you want a city we don’t have yet, go ahead and request it at our site!

Atoll CoPilot Capitan

Atoll CoPilot Capitan

Atoll CoPilot Capitan is a digital dashboard featured by unique combined speed, location and altitude 3D log graph. It also visualizes your current speed and heading, keeps an eye on speed limits and driving style, and reminds you to take some a rest if you’re driving for too long.

Detailed features list include:

- Location/Speed/Altitude 3D trip graph
Unique way to represent the speed, location and altitude data in a single 3D graph. Color coded speed and altitude chart is constantly adjusted according to your moving trajectory. At your current location point there is a digital compass, showing moving course related to the true (not magnetic) North.
You can adjust the view angle by moving your finger vertically, horizontal move changes the time scale. Tapping the “CLR” icon clears the track data, “FIT” sets the default view angle and fits the whole track on screen. in Preferences, you can adjust the transparency of all the components of the chart or switch them off completely.

- Speed display
The speed display of Atoll.CoPilot Capitan is “live” – it changes the font size and color depending on your acceleration, making the reading more expressive. Also, it has two modes of showing the average trip speed (tap to display it in full size): average speed during last 5 minutes (“-avg”) or average speed since program startup (“+avg”).

- HUD (Head-Up Display) mode

Tapping the “HUD” icon mirrors all the text and removes small display details, so if you position the iPhone horizontally under your car’s windscreen you can see perfectly readable half-transparent reflection of the picture displayed. We love this mode! We found it much more convenient compared to traditional car dashboards (especially on the roads of Western Europe, which are full of speed cameras and where you need to watch your speedometer all the time). And last but not the least – it just looks cool.
Note: this mode works pretty well at night time and twilight, but on direct sunlight the screen brightness can be insufficient.

-Driving style advisor
Every 5 minutes Atoll.CoPilot Capitan checks the collected speed data and if you accelerating or braking too hard and too often reminds you about the safety. Sometimes, when you’re hurrying to the airport overtaking other cars, it’s good to have something that reminds you that missed plane isn’t worth your life!
The “lightning” icon on the left below the “speed limit” is a meter that indicates how “smooth” your driving is. When you driving on motorway keeping the constant speed the icon is green, but if you change the speed often it turns red, indicating that the situation is getting potentially dangerous. Gray color tells the advisor indicator is off or there is not enough speed data collected. Also this feature can be used as a fuel economy indicator – smooth driving results in lower fuel consumption. Of course, sensitivity of the Advisor can be adjusted in Preferences, or it can be completely switched off.
