About the NATO Alphabet
Radio and telephone communic ation is often plagued by interf erence.
In order to ensure the intelligibility of voice signals over radio links, the NATO alphabet, also known as the international radio telephony spelling alphabet, assigns code words to the letters of the alphabet (Alfa for A, Bravo for B, etc.).
The use of this alphabet ensures that combinations of letters can be pronounced and understood by any and all who transmit or receive voice messages.
